CODESRIA
Documentation and Information Centre (CODICE)
|
Established
in 1983, the CODESRIA Documentation and Information Centre (CODICE),
collects, processes and disseminates information pertaining to the
social sciences. It provides documentary support and information
to CODESRIA research programmes, African researchers, African
universities, research and training institutes as well as to
African governments and their agencies. CODICE exchanges
publications with several local, regional and international
organisations, across Africa, Asia,
Europe, and North and South America. CODICE also co-operates
with a number of social science information services. As part of
this co-operation, CODICE is a member of numerous networks.
CODICE maintains a rich documentary collection of social science
information and research findings. These comprise books and
periodicals as well as numerous reference works, reports,
conference papers,
press dossiers,
theses and dissertations. CODICE
manages and updates the following databases:
the
Bibliographic
database; the
Database of CODESRIA Publications, the Database
of African Social Scientists
and
the
Database
of Periodicals.
The Centre
provides a variety of services. These include information searches
through databases and the Internet; compilation of thematic
bibliographies and press dossiers; documentary loan and provision
of photocopies. It also refers users to numerous other appropriate
information services. CODICE generates the Catalogue of CODESRIA
Sponsored Theses and Dissertations. It also publishes a
comprehensive list of CODESRIA conferences and a Directory of
CODESRIA Publications. The Acquisitions List and the Current
Contents are also produced.
CODICE caters for CODESRIA Working Groups, laureates of Small
Grants for Theses Writing and those of the CODESRIA Institutes on
Governance, Gender, Health,
Child and Youth Studies, and researchers involved in diverse
CODESRIA research programmes. CODICE is also at the service of
CODESRIA personnel, students and lecturers of African
universities, training and research institutes, and visiting
researchers from institutions within or outside Africa.
Bibliographic Database
The data base
contains records of bibliographical references of the following
types of documents: books, reports, theses and dissertations,
conference papers, reference works, and periodicals articles. The
documents are mainly in French or English.
Collection of theses
Since 1988 CODESRIA through its programme of Small Grants for
Thesis Writing has given support to African scholars and students.
Completed theses and dissertations have been received and
processed. These theses and dissertations come from several
African universities and cover various disciplines.
Database of African Social Scientists
The database specifies the research interests of African social
science researchers. It is a valuable source of information for
institutions and for the researchers themselves. Its aim is to
serve as an important tool for the promotion of research, and
research networks at a global level.
CODICE welcomes new entries to the database, and to assist users
in updating information, an
online form
is available.
